

Maria was born in Escuinapa, Sinaloa, Mexico on September 12, 1913. Throughout her life she would travel into the United States to help with harvest. In 1975 she immigrated to the United States, settling in Mount Vernon, Washington where she worked in the strawberry, berry and cucumber harvests. Later that year she moved to Othello and went to work for Harvest Fresh. She took care of her mother until she passed away. Maria also worked for Carnation, Lamb Weston and Western cold Storage, and every June she helped with the Cherry harvest.
Maria was an avid gardener and was well known for her roses and vegetables. She enjoyed craft work and created many beautiful necklaces and earrings. She also sewed and crocheted. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be remembered as a very giving person, she always donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and to St. Joseph Seminary.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents and a son Ismael. She is survived by her son Javier (Virginia) of Othello and Roberto of Mexico, 13 grand children and 25 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 3, 2013 at Stevens Funeral Chapel from 4 until 7:00 with a rosary being prayed at 6:00. Mass will celebrated for Maria on Tuesday May 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Chapel.
