

Died peacefully in Ottawa on May 16, 2011, a few weeks short of her 90th birthday. Daughter of the late Bernadette Desmond and Anthony Gannon of North Sydney, Nova Scotia; predeceased by her siblings Irene, Margaret and Thomas Gannon; and also by her first husband John Thorp, and her second husband Roy MacDonald. She is survived by her son John Thorp, her daughter-in-law Bonnie MacLachlan, and their son John Gilbert Thorp; also by her daughter Margaret MacLellan, her son-in-law Rob MacLellan, and their children Katherine, Angus and Frances MacLellan; also by her nieces Sharon, Linda and Susan Gannon. She was for many years an active volunteer in many good works in Ottawa, most notably in palliative care. She enjoyed the company of many friends at the Maycourt Club, the IODE, and the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. Between her 75th and her 80th year she studied theology at St Paul University, graduating in 2000. The family is grateful for the excellent care she received in her declining years at Rideau Place on the River, and from her devoted caregivers Gina, Gisèle, Nina and Anna. In her final illness the medical services of the ICU at the General Hospital were exemplary in every way. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, 11.00 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church, Cartier & Somerset Streets, Ottawa. In memoriam donations may be made to St. Paul University.
