It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Aurèle (Willy) Lamothe, who passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 in Ottawa, Ontario. Born on December 2, 1932 on Martineau Street in Lowertown, to parents Elie and Yvonne (born Léonard), Aurèle was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A proud Canadian, Aurèle had a long career in the federal public service, working at Rideau Hall, among other places, where he made many lifelong friendships and was witness to many historic moments.
Willy also had a deep respect and appreciation for nature ever since his childhood. He was an avid fisherman - a passion that he shared and passed along to his children and grandchildren. Cabonga, his favourite fishing spot, will surely miss his yearly presence (the fish may not). Aurèle was also a dedicated, homegrown sports fan, faithfully cheering on his beloved Ottawa Senators from the very beginning.
Above all, Aurèle was a family man - a supportive brother, loving father and always present grandfather. He would never miss an opportunity to spend time with those he loved and was always a welcome presence at gatherings, including those with the Denny/Floyd family.
Willy will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humour and authenticity. We will all miss his stories, his laughter and his love, but he will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Résidence Saint-Louis for their amazing care. A special thank you to Maggie, Michelle and Dr. Galbraith. A private ceremony for Aurèle will be held for family and friends.
