Peacefully, knowing that she was surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, March 12, 2021, in her 85th year, Betty Ann - the ultimate warrior - decided that it was time to move on. Beloved wife of the late James Malcolm Dunn; loving and cherished mother of Dale (Kikki) and Shelly (Eric); predeceased by her parents Mabel and Harry Millar of Murray Harbour North, PEI and sisters Alice Johnston (Glen deceased) and Helen Jardine (Chris deceased); dear sister of William Millar (Lou deceased, Barbara Ann deceased); and doting mother to Zak, her faithful, furry 4-legged companion. Betty Ann will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from the PEI Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and spent most of her career working at the Riverside Hospital in Ottawa where she was a dedicated and caring nurse. An avid curler, Betty was also a passionate and enthusiastic Ottawa Senators fan. She made lasting friendships during her time at St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church and most recently at Knox Presbyterian Church in Manotick.
She had strong bonds with all of her nursing buddies – including many in PEI as well as the “group of 6” in Ottawa. She loved all of them unconditionally.
Special thank you to the staff of the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice for their incredible care and compassion during her final days. This facility provides an invaluable service to patients and their families and deserves our ongoing support.
The family is forever grateful to her niece Linda for always providing help wherever it was needed, especially during these last few years, as well as for the ongoing love and support of other family and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Beechwood Cemetery. Donations in Betty Ann’s memory to Hospice Ottawa or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated.
