Catherine Becker

At home, with her family on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the age of 56 years, after a difficult six-year struggle with breast cancer and leukemia. Cathy was the beloved wife of 32 years of David and cherished mother of Jennifer and Sandi. Cathy was predeceased by her parents John and Eunice Monaghan and her brother Terry. She is survived by her sister, Maureen, and her brothers, Larry (Joan) and Dan (Jackelyne), her sisters-in law, Kate Delmage and Helen (Rick Miskelly) and her brother-in-law Gordon (Barbara), as well as 12 nieces and nephews. Cathy also will be deeply missed by her aunts and uncles, numerous cousins and her many friends, especially Donna and Ian and Marlene and Bill. Cathy will always be remembered for her zest for life, her love of adventure, including jumping out of airplanes, and her incredible spirit in the face of adversity. Her positive outlook and her ability to live her life to the fullest, particularly in the last year of her life, were an inspiration to all who knew her. The family would like to thank Dr Splinter, Dr Sabloff and his team in Module L, all the staff in the Medical Day Care Unit and on 5 West at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital, and the nurses and caregivers from Bayshore Homecare for all of the heartfelt and attentive care they provided during Cathy’s illness. A special thanks, also, to all of the family and friends who supported Cathy in her final journey by driving her to appointments, and providing meals, gifts, cards, phone calls, e-mails and visits. Your kind and generous support were all greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 1-3 pm, followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel at 3 pm.
