Christine Joly

It’s still hard to believe I’m writing this, but my mom, Christine Marie Marcelle Joly, passed away suddenly on February 28th, 2026. She was born February 9th, 1968, in Ottawa, Ontario.

My mom’s life took her to many places across Canada — from Ottawa, to Edmonton, Alberta, to Comox/Courtenay, British Columbia, and other places along the way. Life wasn’t always easy for her, but it was her journey and her story.

She was the daughter of the late Francine H. Poulin-Joly and the late Paul R. Joly.

She was a mother to three children — me (Leaha), Terra, and Matthew — and a grandmother to Arwen and Zane. She also leaves behind her siblings Rachel, Jennifer, Victoria, Tammy, and James, along with extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents Paul Joly, Francine Joly and James Cronies and her grandson Rhylii Schultz.

We would like to thank the Ottawa paramedics and all the staff at the Civic Hospital for their joint efforts in trying to save my mother.

My mom was Wendat First Nations, and that heritage will always live on through her children and grandchildren. In our teachings we believe the spirit never truly leaves — it continues its journey.

She loved the color purple, and amethyst, her birthstone, was her favorite gemstone. She loved her cat Mitsey. Those small things brought her comfort and happiness.

She is now reunited with loved ones who went before her — her grandson, her mother, her father, and her grandmother, as well as other family who welcomed her home.

I hope she is now walking a gentler path in the Spirit World, free from pain and struggle, guided by the Creator and welcomed by the ancestors.

When I see purple skies or the light in an amethyst stone, I will think of her.

Mom, I hope the ancestors welcomed you home with open arms.

Guide her spirit as she walks the path to the ancestors.

May the wind carry her gently.

May the waters cleanse her spirit.

May the fire warm her heart.

May the earth hold her in peace.
