Dan passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 17th, 2021 at the age of 81. Born in Sydney, NS, Dan was the son of the late Roderick and Frances (O’Leary) Currie. Dan left Cape Breton in January 1957 to join the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 31 years. During his career as an aero engine technician, Dan had postings within various squadrons in the Ottawa area, Marville, France and Baden Soellingen, Germany. While posted overseas he met his wife, Lucette. Upon retiring from the air force, Dan went on to continue supporting the military through his job at Promaxis. At the age of 73, Dan retired where he enjoyed his summers at Glenalee Campground in White Lake, ON, enjoying a cold beverage with friends and spending time with his grandson, Matthew.
Dan is survived by his brother Kevin (Delores MacIntyre) Beaver Cove, NS; sister, Betty (John Hugh) Johnston, Sydney, NS; three sons Eric (Tammy) Ottawa, Patrick (Cathie) Ottawa, Mark (Nathalie) Surrey, BC. and grandson Matthew, Oromocto, NB. Predeceased by his cherished wife Lucette, and brother Roderick.
The family appreciates all of the help and support provided by Dr. Fawzi Mankal, Melissa Spencley from Reginal Palliative Consultation Team at Bruyere, the nurses and staff from Carefor Health and Community Services. A special thank you to Lauren McNulty, Matthew’s girlfriend who accompanied Matthew to Ottawa and helped care for Dan in his final days. We will be forever grateful to everyone.
