Unexpectedly, in hospital on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at the age of 69 years. Loving son of Jeanne Martin (nee Marcotte) and the late Mitchel Martin. Beloved husband of Mary Lascelle. Dear father of Michelle (Dan), Robert (Romula), Tom (Sue), Gavan (Jeanne), Mary Lou and Amy. Loving grandfather of Kayla, Kacie, Amanda, Cynthia, Jonathan, Tyler, Tyson, Dawson, Kaileigh, Oliva and Alexandria. Great-grandfather of Noah and Kaity-Mae. Survived by his sisters Holly (Gordon Vader) and Lynda (Dave Miller). Don was a retired public servant of the Government of Canada (N.C.C.) with 50 years of service. He was known to many as the “Ice Man” of the Rideau Canal. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11 am at Resurrection of Our Lord Church 1940 Saunderson Drive. In lieu of flowers in memoriam donations to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation or the Red Cross would be appreciated.
