Gordie was born on January 11, 1962, and he lived a life full of love, passion, and adventure. He is survived by his lifelong partner and best friend, Maria Iraci, who was his unwavering companion throughout their years together. He is also deeply missed by his siblings, Rick Murray (Daphne), Debbie Barclay (Allan), Bob Murray (Laurie Sweet), and Nancy Brisson (Geoff), as well as his beloved goddaughter, Leanna. Gordie’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Doris, who will always remain in his heart.
A man of many passions, Gordie loved the thrill of sports, particularly football (always cheering for the Denver Broncos), baseball (a devoted New York Yankees fan), and hockey (proud Ottawa 67's season ticket holder). His love for adventure extended beyond the field, as he was an avid kayaker, embracing nature and the outdoors with an infectious enthusiasm. Gordie was also known for his impressive collection of hats, each one a piece of his unique personality.
Gordie’s travels took him to many special places, with memorable trips to Montreal and Denver, Colorado, where he created lifelong memories and enjoyed the company of friends and family.
Above all, Gordie’s kindness, sense of humor, and the love he gave to those around him will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a loyal friend, a loving brother, and an irreplaceable partner.
I special thank you to all the staff at St Vincent Hospital for their compassion and loving care for Gordie over the past few years.
A Memorial Reception to honour Gordie’s life will be held on Monday April 21st, 2025 from 4-7pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road. Words of Remembrance to begin at 5pm.
