Guy Emile Labelle died peacefully at the Montfort Hospital on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 92 years old. Born in Hawkesbury on December 23,1930, Guy lived a fulfilling life, mostly in Ottawa. As a boy in Sandy Hill, he attended the University of Ottawa high school. He worked for General Motors in Oshawa before returning to Ottawa to help his father Roch manage Eastview Hardware. He later was a sales representative for St. Lawrence Cement before joining the federal government in the printing division of supply and services. He and his then-wife Doris Evelyn (née Waugh) raised five children; Steve (Cathy), Jeanne (Sofia), Suzanne (Geoff), Carole (Gord) and Roch (Edwina). Summer camping was among the family’s pastimes. During a long and active retirement, Guy enjoyed skiing, golf and travel. He especially relished his trips to China, South Africa, and Ireland where he joined a tour organized by the Ottawa Irish Society. Guy’s paternal grandmother Charlotte Molloy was of Irish heritage. Guy’s mother Irène (née De Haitre) was a teacher, and Guy always spoke fondly of her. He had many friends, a core group of whom enjoyed regular Friday lunches at the Prescott. In addition to his ex-wife and children, he is survived by his sister Marcelle. Six other brothers and sisters; Phil, Hank, Aline, Madeleine, Jeanne, and Leo pre-deceased him. He is remembered today by many nieces and nephews as well as grandchildren; Ryan, Tyler, Sarah, Jenny and Angela, and great-grandchildren Vincent, Rory, Vanessa, Weston, Fletcher, Charlie, and Estelle.
