1971-2023
Ian passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 51 on February 27th 2023. Ian is survived by his two children, Emily and Brandon Moffatt, his wife Kim Brackhahn. His sisters Mona-Lee (Jacques) and Suzanne, as well as his brothers Donald (Tammy) Jimmy (Lyne) and Larry.
Growing up in a tiny parish called Dundee in New Brunswick, life at the beginning was surely not easy on him. Ian took life by the horns and joined the military at 16. During his time, he was a model soldier and served tirelessly.
A few years in, he met his wife Kim. They fell in love and had 2 children together. Jumping from posting to posting, the family finally settled in Ottawa, where they continue to live now.
After 23 years, Ian retired to pursue a new path in life. He began work in the mining industry, travelling between his home in Ottawa and his work in Africa or White River. Ian was the textbook definition of a hard-worker. If there was something to work on, he was already doing it.
He loved the simple joys of life. He had an incredible ability to bring smiles and laughs to wherever he was. He was loved immediately by anyone who met him. He loved boating, naming the family’s Pontoon “The Alice and Jeannine” after the mothers of him and his wife. A beautiful summer day was never complete without a ride on the Ottawa River.
He was an amazing cook, with tips and tricks picked up from all of his international travels. A good meal was always met with a proclamation of “Yup, we could definitely sell this!”
Ian will be remembered by all for the lives and hearts he touched throughout his many journeys, jobs and travels. He will be forever remembered as a passionate leader, a strong father, a loving husband, a caring brother, an incredible soldier, an inspiring mentor and a great friend to all.
In honour of his surviving brother Larry Moffatt, the family asks for those who wish to offer support to replace donations of flowers with donations to the Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes (located here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/66291?v2=tru) or a charity of your choice.
The family also asks that you share a memory with them by clicking the “Share a Memory” button location on the obituary page.
A visitation will be held on April the 11th from 1pm-3pm. A celebration of life will be held at 3pm.
