It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of June Coke, an engaging, generous and remarkable woman who touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Born in Cornwall and raised in the small town of Avonmore Ontario, June earned degrees from Queen’s University (B.A) and the University of Toronto (B.Ed.). She thoroughly enjoyed her career as a high school teacher in Smith Falls, Cornwall and in Ottawa, Ontario, where she challenged and inspired her students to excel.
While a member of the Cornwall ski club she met the love of her life, Jim Coke. They were married for 61 years.
June was a beloved daughter, mother, sister and grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents Annie and Willard Stevenson and her husband Jim Coke.
She leaves behind her daughters Nancy (Rick Hellard) and Marian (Bob Plamondon), her sister Gwen Harterre (Don) and brother Garry Stevenson (Elaine) She was a proud grandma to Nathaniel, Charlotte, Megan and Michael and great grandmother to Edie.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr Lisa Moore and her team for years of compassionate care. We’re also grateful to the staff at the Stirling Park Retirement Home and the May Court Hospice.
The funeral will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1pm at McEvoy and Shields Funeral Home and Chapel, 1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa.
