It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Justin after a courageous and long battle with bone cancer. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his mother, Patricia (Tish) MacLellan Ernst; his father, Richard Ernst and his sister, Heather. He will always be loved and sadly missed by his grandparents Dr. Richard and Mary Ernst, St. Louis, Missouri. He will be fondly loved and missed by his aunts and uncles, who assisted us through his illness – Elizabeth Ann (Ivan) Gillis of Burlington, ON; Jane MacLellan (Lou Delaney) of Calgary, AB; Louise (Paul) Murray of Halifax, N.S.; Arlene (Elwin) Smith of Mabou, N.S.; John (Mayvis) MacLellan of Rivers, MB; Steve Ernst (Becky Hutton) of Colorado Springs, CO; Kathie Ernst of St. Louis, MO and Christie (Steve) Kovacs of Boston, MA. Justin’s memory will be cherished by many first and second cousins whom he loved to visit and who felt like brothers and sisters. He will also be mourned by his cousin Allan J. MacEachen of Ottawa, ON and his Grand Aunts Florence MacDonald and Bernice Gillies of Port Hood, N.S. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Jessie and Ronald MacLellan and his uncle, Allan MacLellan, all of Strathlorne, N.S. We hope that Grammie is still making biscuits in heaven! Justin completed his elementary studies at St. Marguerite d’Youville School and was enrolled in Grade 8 at St. Patrick’s Intermediate School. He was loved and supported through his illness by many friends and teachers at both schools. Justin had plans to become an oncologist so that he could help others. Justin will be remembered for his strength and courage, his intelligence, his quick wit and his compassion for both people and animals. He loved his dog, Muffie, who was his special wish granted by the Children’s Wish Foundation. Muffie buoyed his spirits with her unconditional love. Listening to music with Heather and video-gaming with friends also lifted Justin’s spirits and provided many hours of happiness when he was able to forget about his illness. We appreciate the efforts and compassion of the staff at CHEO over the last three and a half years in caring for Justin. We are grateful to the staff at the Ottawa General Hospital, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre and the home care nurses and technicians who participated in Justin’s treatment. We also appreciate the compassion of the staff at Roger’s House in caring for Justin and in helping us come to terms with Justin’s needing to move on to a new phase of his journey. We are also thankful for the thoughtful gestures and prayers of many neighbours and friends in our community and throughout Canada and the United States. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road on Friday December 17, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-9 pm. Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10 am at Holy Cross Church 685 Walkley Road. Interment Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO); Roger’s House or to any efforts which support children with cancer.
