It is with great sadness the family of Michael F. Duggan, in his 92nd year wish to announce his passing on December 30, 2015. Michael or "Mike" was born in Mount Saint Patrick, (Renfrew County), Ontario. With a teeming family of 8 siblings he developed a strong sense of family. He married the love of his life, Viola Duggan (nee Gibbons). Together they settled in Sudbury, Ontario for many years, raising a wonderful family of three children: Deborah, Cheryl-Lynn and Daniel. As a role model and hero for his children, he instilled the same family values he had acquired in life. When the kids grew older and more independent venturing off into the world, Mike and Viola would often vacation on a little spot in the French River as well as in the warm and sunny Florida, savoring life at a slower pace. He and Viola eventually moved back to the Ottawa Valley settling in Ottawa for their retirement years. As a new generation began, he remained active and social playing a large part in the lives of his many grandchildren. An avid fan of sports, Mike's passion for curling, fishing, and golf was well known. Into his later years, Mike still proved to his kids and grandkids that consistency beat raw power every time. Bearing strong ties to friends/family and a competitive spirit, Mike continued to curl and golf well into his 80’s with even one round of golf to celebrate his 90th birthday. With a sharp mind, he fostered interests in world events and emerging technology. Even with an enormous extended family, Mike was very outgoing, frequently liaising with his grandchildren, keeping in touch with nieces, nephews & siblings in person or using skype – he enjoyed family gatherings and never shied away from a good party. Strong of mind and body, Mike beat the odds, surviving after being diagnosed with cancer well beyond all expectations and with dignity and a high quality of life. Having lived a full and happy life, he passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family. He is predeceased by his siblings John, James, Margaret, Mary, Rita, Julianna, and Alice. Survived by his beloved wife Viola of 62 years, sister Loretta, three children and many nieces and nephews. Proud grandfather of Melissa, Shauna, Laura, Matt, Scott, Austin, Roy & Kate and great-grandfather of Aidan, Hunter, Chase, Grace, Ben, Lily & Gabriel. Many thanks to the all those who delivered exemplary care in his time of need. Special thanks to the Kearns family for always being there for Mike & Viola and special thanks to his Nurse, Mairi and Dr. Fify Soeyonggo & Dr. Munro at the Ottawa General Hospital. Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff and residents at Landmark Court (Revera). Mike flourished and embraced life in his short stay at Landmark.
