1945 -2019
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Mike Wright on March 31, 2019. Mike died peacefully with Sharon, his wife and best friend, by his side. Along with Sharon, he leaves behind his sisters-in-law Maureen Anderson (husband David) and Diane O’Brien, his nieces Marymaureen and Megan and his great nieces and great nephews Kathryn, Shane, Marlow, Bohde and Nolan. Mike was born in Chatham, ON and after living in many locales made Ottawa his home in 1973. He was a proud graduate of the University of Iowa and a lifelong loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. Mike began his career with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and after several years moved to Canada Post Corporation where he worked for 22 years. Mike was an avid reader, with a keen interest in British history, a lover of music from all genres, an admirer of Italian Renaissance art, a connoisseur of fine wine and American bourbon, an enthusiastic skier, an attentive gardener, an animal lover and a mentor to many, both young and old. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, researched his British roots, tended to his roses and travelled extensively with Sharon. His favourite destination was England where he loved climbing the mountains of the glorious English Lake District. Mike will be remembered for his intellect, his wit, his sense of humour and his kind and generous nature. Visitation at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Saturday, May 4 from 10 -11 am followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Mission or the Ottawa Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
