Shaké Tourian

Shaké passed away peacefully on February 23, 2022, at home in Arnprior, Ontario while surrounded by family (four children, their spouses, and five grandchildren). She was the daughter of Ardaches Orakian and Rizette Karkour, beloved wife of the late Leon Tourian Sr. (2017), and sister of the late Berge Orakian (2005). She leaves to mourn her three daughters, Sylva Tourian (Norair Berberian), Ani Tourian (Mel Abercrombie), Alida Tourian (Dalton Campbell) and her son, Dr. Leon (Levonig) Tourian Jr. (Martin Allaire). She will also be mourned by her five grandchildren, Armen Berberian, Devon Abercrombie, Caitlin Campbell, Alexander Abercrombie, and Pierce Campbell, and missed by many other family members and dear friends. Visitation will be held Friday February 25 from 11am to 1pm, followed by a religious service in the chapel of the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home & Chapel 1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 1A6 (613) 737-7900. Shaké was born in Cairo in 1938. She trained as a nurse in Egypt before moving to Montreal where she and her husband raised their family. Shaké was a natural artist in both the kitchen, whipping up gourmet meals in the blink of eye, and the sewing room, where she was a skilled seamstress who confected her three daughter’s wedding gowns and till recently was needlepointing with great passion and skill. Shaké loved her family, her children, and her grandchildren. Family was everything to her and she instilled the importance of family and generosity in her children and grandchildren. Everyone who met Shaké left her presence with a stomach full of the most delicious food, a smile on their face because of Shake’s refreshing and unfiltered candour, and the feeling of being part of her family.

We thank Carrie Burns-Lacombe for many years of loyal friendship and support. We thank the Home and Community Care and Arnprior Assisted Living Services (Arnprior regional Health) and especially Katie Farrimond for all her support in the last couple of years in helping ensure mom was able to stay at home safely. We thank Dr. Jennifer Rivington, Shake’s physician of many years for all her help and care.
