Simone Sweet

Died peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the age of 96. Predeceased by husbands Walter Sweet and Rene Deschenes. Loving mother of Diane (Dale Trafford), Donald (Nicole) Deschenes and dear step-mother of Walter (Glenda), Bob (Sonia) and Evelyn Sweet. Daughter of the late Hermine Brisson and Emery Chapman. Sister of Cecile Schmidt, Jeanne Rocheleau, Julie Garneau, Betty Krepski and the late Eileen Tighe and Richard (Hendrena) Chapman. She was the greatest “Gaga” to her grandchildren: Audrey and Scot Hunter, Roch and Daniel (Elisabeth) Deschenes, Cameron, Jocelyn, Gillian, Jackie (Kirk Thompson) and Brad (Susan) Sweet, Jennifer Petrin, Reda, Anne, Amira (Darin Hor), Crystal, Riyad, Rady and Mac (Janessa) Saleh and great grandchildren: Jamie Hunter, Cameron and Allyson Smart, Matthew, Benjamin and Alexander Deschenes, Sophia and Valerie Verozinis, Holly and Matthew Thompson, Victoria and Melanie Sweet, Evan and Daniel Petrin, Justin and Jade Hor, and Malek, Payton and Oliver Saleh. She will also be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Simone worked as a waitress for 48 years in many well known eating establishments including the Royal York Hotel, the Chateau Laurier, Al’s Steak House, Town and Country and in 1982 retired from the Green Valley. We will miss her wonderful smile and sense of humour. Many thanks to the staff of the Ottawa Hospital , Civic Campus, floor 5A and the Glebe Centre floor 2L. Cremation has already taken place. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Sunday, June 23rd from 1pm to 2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
