1928 - 2015
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Tata. He passed February 23, 2015 at home with his loving family by his side.
Tata was born July 13, 1928 in Colorado, Texas raised in Isleta, Texas. He was one of 10 children.
When he was a teenager he found his way to California in search of a job. He eventually found work in construction. He worked in construction until his retirement from Local 585.
He met the love of his life Hope Gonzalez in 1947. Together they raised six children, Helen, Jess, Mary, Abel, Becky, and Darla. He was a very religious man. He attended St. Anthony's Church for Mass everyday for many years of his life. After his retirement he became the typical grandfather. He ran errands, took the grandkids to and from school and cared for them at any time. He attended many of their events. He was a very religious man. He attended St. Anthony's Church for Mass every day for many years of his life. One of his passions was ocean fishing. He would fish from the pier, surf fish, fish from the rocks, or deep sea fish. It always made us laugh when he became creative making his own sinkers and fishing lures. His other passion was his birds. At any given time he would have one kind of bird or another. He cared for them like his own children. He maintained cages for them in the back yard and would talk to them and make carios to them all the time.
His fun times were watching the Lakers and Dodgers. His most favorite times however, were attending family bar-b-cues and special family events be they sport games or school performances. He was known for the "Tata Specials". These were bloopers he made all the time. It was always something very close to what he meant, but not really. Example: One night at a restaurant he wanted thousand island dressing on his salad....he ordered....a thousand palms. Freddie Fender was Freddie Bumpers. See, close but no cigar.
Tata was preceded in death by his daughter Helen Pea, his parents, and all of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Hope Pea, children, Jess (Sandra), Mary Manchego (James), Abel, Becky, and Darla Ramirez (Larry). He has 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Tata, You may be gone from us here on earth, but you will forever be in our hearts. We all love and will miss you dearly. One day we'll be together again.
Since maroon and navy blue were his favorite colors, if you would like, wear one or both of those colors for his services in his honor.
Visitation/Viewing will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 2:00pm to 9:00pm with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00pm in the chapel at Funeraria Del Angel Conrad Carroll, 401 W. Channel Isl.
