Frank Hyde was a true horseman and gentleman. Anyone who rode gymkhana knew Frank. I enjoyed several great years riding with him and his extended family. My condolences to his family and his wonderful wife.

I had just moved to Camarillo, CA in 1975 and thought I was an experienced gymkhana youth rider until I met Mr. Hyde. My parents mostly my dad Clinton Rust and I were looking for a better horse and found Mr. Hyde. I was the so lucky to of had him in my life. It was if he was a second father to me. He had no problem praising me as well as keeping me in line. I tried out one of Denise Letchers horses and about fell off doing an 9.5 second poles 1 run holding on to the horn with both hands. Thats when the lessons started. I had my lessons every Saturday at 8am for about 4-5 years I would say. You could always learn something new. My father became just as involved with CGA and when Dist. 11 had to relocate from Lake Casitas area we offered our property located at 1525 Lewis Road in Camarillo. We called the arena Hyde's Tribe and we were very proud of it. Mr. Hyde and many other worked very hard on making it the bigest and fastest arena in the state at that time. Boy did I complain when it came to watering it every other weekend... little did I know how lucky I was. My Hyde has inspired me to continue to ride and breed quarter horses. I have tried to walk in his foot steps regarding his mannerism on teaching others. I will miss him dearly. He was a great man, trainer, friend, teacher, father and mentor to many. My prayers are with all the family and friends who are sadden at this time. May he continue his work in heaven. God Bless you Mr. Hyde. Loved being a student of yours. The name Frank Hyde was mentioned many many times around our dinner table, as my dad would tell how his day went.  Frank worked with my dad, AL KUNZ, at Knudsen Creamery in Montalvo many years a ago.  My dad respected this wonderful man and considered him a great friend.

A wonderful man passes on only to leave behind a warm place in the world. I lived over the hill from Mr. Hyde when I was a young girl. I moved to somis when I was nine and had a horse named fresca who took me everywhere. Mr Hyde was always welcoming to myself and several horsekids in the area. He was a real cowboy and a great example to all us kids. We could ride at his house and he kept us save. I continued to ride safely into adulthood, in part, because of his example. A wonderful man will be missed by his closest.

I just wanted to send my condolences to the family of Frank Hyde.  I saw his picture this morning in the Star and when I saw the name, it brought back hundreds of wonderful memories for me.  Back in the late 60s and seventies,  I was a young girl who happened to have a little white pony who loved to run.  My parents had just divorced and I managed to keep my pony at my friend's homes in Canoga Park, Chatsworth areas.   Frank always had "playdays" where he would put on a gymkhana  and we would have  a blast.  He would give us kids advice and encouragement.  I loved this part of my life and it helped with the ugly parts of my life that was going on at the same time.  Thank you for bringing back those memories,, he was a great guy.
