

Manuel Avelar Salazar of Oxnard, California transitioned to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born in Santa Paula, California on September 18, 1931 to his parents Vincente and Timotea Salazar. He is the eldest of six children.
Manuel enlisted in the Army to proudly serve his country and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany during the Korean War. Upon returning home he began a long and successful career in the plumbing, pipe fitter and welding trades. Manuel served as President for Local 484 for eight years, was a leader and mentor and is widely respected by many in the industry. After his retirement from the building trades he became a Senior Building Inspector for the cities of Ventura, California and Thousand Oaks, California. In his later years, Manuel proudly served in the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
Manuel met the love of his life, Christel Elisabeth Bender, in Frankfort Germany during his station assignment while in the Army. Upon completion of his service, Manuel returned to the United States with Christel and were joined in marriage in 1958. From their union they had three children, two sons and a daughter. Manuel and Christel loved spending time together, whether it was traveling, going to the beach or even just spending time at home with the family. Manuel had a love and passion for growing antler ferns and orchids. His success in growing these healthy plants won him many medals and prizes over the years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially boxing and wrestling.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents Timotea Cabrales, Vincente Salazar, his son Manuel V. Salazar, brothers Freddie and Jesse and sister Ernestina. He is survived by his wife Christel Elisabeth Salazar, sons David and Christopher (Angie), daughter Elke, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother Ruben (Lydia), sister Gracie and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.

A visitation for Manuel will be held Monday, February 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Oxnard, 401 West Channel Islands Blvd, Oxnard, CA 93033. A rosary service will occur Monday, February 28, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM, 401 West Channel Islands Blvd, Oxnard, CA 93033. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Church, 2511 S C St., Oxnard, CA 93033. A committal service will occur Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 N. H Street, Oxnard, CA 93036.
