Steven was a 42 year resident of Ventura County. He was born at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital in Biloxi, Miss., on March 23, 1963. He was the third son of Frederick and Norma (Evelyn) Cole.
Steven had suffered from various medical issues for a few years. He lost his right leg in a motor cycle accident in January 2009 and never fully recovered from the trauma he suffered from the many surgeries he had to endure.
Steven was preceded in death by his older brother Curtis Eugene Cole of Hull, Ga., who passed away on September 10, 2011. Steven is survived by his parents, his older brother Edwin Harold Cole of Los Angeles; his beloved younger brother Theodore Albert Cole of Canoga Park; his nephew Christopher Eric Cole of Athens, Ga.; his nieces Tiffany Ann Smart of Watkinsville, Ga.; Natasha Ryan Cole of Port Hueneme, his sister-in-law Nancy Cole of Hull, Ga.; and his beloved great-niece Hailey Lynn Austin of Port Hueneme; his great-nephews Timothy Smart and Dylan Smart of Watkinsville, Ga. He leaves behind his special friends Ralph Lucero and Teresa Lane-Martinez who were always there to help him when the going got rough and he needed help just to get out of the house to shop and to socialize. One of his greatest loves was his little fluffy black Brussels Griffon dog "Lucky", who seems to sense his loss.
When they were young Steven and his brothers loved to surf and spend time at the beach. He was a drummer and had just purchased a new drum set which he was so happy with. After the amputation of his leg he developed a love for abstract painting. He delighted in framing his paintings and giving them to his friends.
Steven loved to get in his wheel chair and take Lucky for a walk, and go out and talk to the neighbors and he especially enjoyed talking to the children. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A Memorial service and reception for Steven will be held on Wednesday, September 12 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 48 in Oxnard, at 2639 Wagon Wheel Road, Oxnard, Ca. Friends are invited to attend.
