Betty Jean Gilstrap Goodson

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Steve King and Reverend Bill Hix officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

She was born on September 9, 1928 in Dothan, Al. Betty was a proud graduate of Dothan High School and Troy University. She was a resident of Ozark for over 50 years, before moving to Tuscaloosa in 2008 with her husband. Betty worked for many years at Ft. Rucker, including several years at the Office of Public Affairs before her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, reading and was an avid Alabama fan. Above all, Betty loved the Lord and taught high school girls Sunday School at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Ozark and later the Women’s Sunday School classes at Ozark Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her father, Henry Grady Gilstrap; her mother, Cora Holman Gilstrap; step-mother, Berta Lou Helms Gilstrap and daughter-in-law, Barbara V. Goodson.

She is survived by her husband, Travis M. Goodson of Tuscaloosa, AL; her son, Steve Goodson of Northport, AL; her brothers, Grady Mack (Donna) Gilstrap of Mobile, AL., and Clifton (Jackie) Gilstrap of Dothan; her grandson, Grant Goodson of Northport, AL; sister-in-law, Edmonia Ard of Ozark, AL; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Grant Goodson, Michael Goodson, David Goodson, Bruce Michalic, Jack Strickland and Ron Murphy.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and residents of Heritage Health Care and Rehab of Tuscaloosa, her former co-workers from Ft. Rucker, her friends at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Ozark Baptist Church and Five Points Baptist Church, Northport, Alabama.
