

Mr. Alfonso Hines, Sr., fondly known as Al, Fonso or Birdie, passed away on May 18, 2025 following a ruptured aneurysm. He was born on February 10, 1944 in Rose Hall, St. James, Jamaica, West Indies, to the late Gerald and Eva Hines.
The family later moved to Barrett Town. Alfonso attended Mt. Zion All-Age School. He began his career as an electrician at the Half Moon Resort in Jamaica. In 1969, he migrated to the United States to start a new chapter in life. In June 1974 he proudly joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Loyal 3, where he served with dedication and pride until his retirement in September 2010.
Alfonso was a constant source of inspiration. love and wisdom to both his immediate and extended family. He will be remembered most for his easy going and friendly demeanor, his deep passion for home improvement, construction and electrical work. He was truly a skilled craftsman who did every project with patience and much pride. If you were lucky enough to have known him for some time, you can probably look around your house and see some of his handy work.
He loved good music, good food and a well-made rum and coke with a twist of lime. A lover of the sea, he cherished long swims during visits to his homeland and delighted in fishing trips with his “bredrens”. He was always ready for a day out on the water.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia Myers-Hines; six beloved children, Paulette Hines-Stanley (Easop), Althea Hines- Morgan (Shawn), Alfonso Hines Jr. (Tina), Ava Hines, Avril Lecky (Hugh), Ian Bernard (Saudia); eleven cherished grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank Edwards, Dorothy Edwards – Jarrett and Manley Albert Hines. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Lascalle Hines and Rosalind Hines Wright and is also mourned by a host of other relatives and friends who were blessed to have known him.
We bid farewell to our dear Fonzo with heavy hearts and gratitude for his love and legacy.
Goodbye is not forever. Goodbye is not the end. It simply means we'll miss you until we meet again.
A visitation for Al will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM at Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepherd, 810 West Florida Avenue, Melbourne, Florida with a funeral service will at 11:30 AM, 810 West Florida Avenue, Melbourne, Florida. A committal will occur Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Fountainhead Memorial Park, 7303 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida.
