Cleveland George Sirjue (Charles), age 78, of Palm Bay, Florida passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022. Clevie was born March 16, 1944 in Jamaica. He grew up in Danvers Pen, a rural district of St. Thomas.
Remembering Cleveland, from his sister,
Cleveland was affectionately called Clevie by his family and Braga Daps by his childhood friends.
Clevie was easy-going, unassuming, compassionate and had a very infectious laugh.
There are many stories that I could share with you about our growing up together, however these two stand out that reflect that he had a good soul. His love and and compassion for others always reflected in how he lived.
1) He was very protective of me being the younger sister, we had to fetch water from the stand pipe, he would put his bucket on his head and carried my small bucket in one hand and held my hand with the other as we walked to get water.
2) There was a time when I "bucked my big toe" real bad. he put me on his back, crossed the river and took me to the clinic at Serge Island, which looked to me like 2 miles away. I got my toe dressed and was on my brothers back again for the trek home, that was love and compassion.
Clevie loved to plant vegetables, Okra was one of of his favorites, he was also a lover of animals, he had a number of goats he would cross over the river and bring them home every evening. He also raised Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Pigeons. Dominoes were his favorite pass time, he would play from dusk to dawn.
Later on he immigrated to the United States but would return to Jamaica for regular visits, many times unannounced. I would be at home and heard someone calling out "Who live ya, who live ya?" Then I would loudly shout back "Who dat?, sounds like Clevie" and of course we laughed uncontrollably.
I miss you dearest brother, precious memories will live on. RIP
