Darrel Alan Hulsey, 56, passed away on March 27, 2026 in Palm Bay, Florida. Born in Miami, Florida, Darrel was raised in Savannah, Georgia by his parents Emrith "Buddy" Hulsey and Mary Gwendolyn Allen, where he developed a lifelong love for the water and the spirit of the South.
After graduating from Tompkins High School, Darrel proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1987 to 1993. He was honorably discharged following his service during the Gulf War, including contributions to Operation Desert Storm. His service reflected his strength, resilience, deep sense of duty, and national pride.
Following his military service where he developed strong teamwork and leadership skills, Darrel built a respected career as an aircraft painter with over 20 years of painting experience and 6 years of aircraft cabinet finishing experience. He was recently honored for dedicating over 10 years of service to Embraer. Known for both his high standards and his vibrant personality, Darrel brought energy and humor to the workplace. Coworkers often shared stories of how he could lighten any situation, keeping spirits high and making even the toughest days more enjoyable.
Darrel was a man of strong faith and a big heart. He had a larger-than-life personality, never took life too seriously, and had a gift for making everyone around him laugh. He enjoyed spending his free time working on new house or yard projects, playing poker (and entering as many tournaments as he could), spending time out on the water or beachside, and cheering on his favorite Georgia teams—especially the Falcons and Bulldogs.
Above all, Darrel loved being a father and he was dearly beloved. He is survived by his daughter, Brittany Cole (née Hulsey); stepson Andre Dixon; and son-in-law Justin Cole. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Gwen, and his stepson, Anthony Miles.
Darrel’s legacy is one of laughter, strength, faith, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Darrel’s honor to the Semper Fi & America’s Fund, which supports fellow service members and their families, reflecting his pride as a United States Marine. https://thefund.org/donate
