Emma Marie Wayt passed on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92; Emma was born on November 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York to parents Joseph and Sibilla Patinella. She had two brothers, Aldo and Italo Patinella and a sister Georgina Patinella Palermiti.
Emma lived a life of faithful, dedicated service to the Lord joining the Franciscan Little Sisters of the Poor convent at 16 years old, in November 1948. She worked diligently as a missionary midwife in Peru and in Rome, Italy. Highly skilled, she spoke Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin. Emma took leave of the convent attending the Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. There, she met Theodore Charles "Bud" Wayt and chose to marry this man who loved her dearly. They married on May 10, 1973.
With a vocational Heavenly call to provide compassionate caring and healing, Emma continued working as a Registered Nurse at St. Peter's Hospital in Brooklyn. Thereafter, Emma & Bud moved to Long Island and she worked at the Intensive Care Unit at Smithtown General Hospital. Later, the couple moved to Front Royal, Virginia and she worked as a nurse at a boy's school. The Wayt's moved to the Florida Space Coast in 2004, settling in Grant where Emma retired as a Home Healthcare Nurse.
Emma Marie enjoyed celebrating her Italian heritage preparing lovely homemade soups, and baking dishes for friends and family. Emma's favorite question to family, the "Girls from Cypress Creek" residential community & other friends was always "what can I give you to take home?!" She often would serenade in Italian song. Kindhearted and selfless, she was a missionary nun for 29 years, volunteered at the local Grant Seafood Festival and participated in the "Red Hat Club" and its community programs.
Emma Marie was preceded in death by her husband "Buddy" in 2025. They celebrated 52 years of marriage. She is survived by her cousin Tecla De Cillia Pecorella who was raised as Emma's sister when her parents passed away. She is also survived by her niece, Mary Ann Kavanagh Lamb (by marriage) & numerous other nieces and nephews. Gratitude to Jeff Dallape bringing Enma Communion weekly and the Pecorella family's compassionate emotional support.
