Born in Saint James, Jamaica, Jay was the beloved daughter of Blossom Little-Jenkins and the late Volney Jenkins. She is predeceased by her brother, Christopher Banner. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 19 years, Rohan White, and their cherished son, Hayden. She also leaves behind her treasured mother, Blossom Willie; supportive stepfather, Michael Willie; siblings Cheryl Jenkins-Chismar, Heather Jenkins-Taylor, Taneil Irving-Pressley, Benjamin James, and Othneil Irving; stepchildren Shaina and Emilio White; along with five nephews, four nieces, and brothers-in-law Howard, Dante, and Jonathan.
A proud graduate of Montego Bay Mt. Alvernia High School, Jay went on to earn her nursing degree from the Cornwall School of Nursing in 2002. She began her career in 2003 as an operating room nurse, quickly distinguishing herself with skill and leadership. In 2005, she moved to Oxford, England, joining the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Hospital, refining her expertise in vascular, urology, and general surgery.
Her career later took her to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Canada, then to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, and to multiple institutions across Vancouver and British Columbia. In 2019, Jay and her family moved to the United States, where she continued her calling before settling in Palm Bay, Florida, serving at Holmes Regional Medical Center with Health First. At every step, she was admired for her compassion, accountability, and unwavering integrity. She was truly the embodiment of the quintessential nurse.
While her professional accomplishments were remarkable, Jay’s greatest joy came from her faith and family. Raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, she cherished the Sabbath and actively participated in congregations wherever she lived, and especially at the West Edmonton Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her Christian upbringing instilled values of fairness, stewardship, and service that guided her life.
Jay’s heart belonged to her family, especially her son Hayden, her greatest blessing. Fridays, her cherished day off, became “sister days,” filled with laughter, shopping, and togetherness. She delighted in traveling, especially to Jamaica, where she and Rohan enjoyed the sunshine, beaches, and foods she loved. Her favorites included steak, Jamaican classics like boiled banana and saltfish, sushi, and Mexican cuisine. She loved vibrant colors, especially yellow, and found joy in music, with Tracy Chapman’s work holding a special place in her heart.
Known as the life of the party, a loyal friend, and a generous giver, Jay deeply adored her mother and showered her nieces and nephews with affection. Even in her final days, the sound of her mother’s voice brought her comfort and joy. Her family fondly recalls, “She would light up like a bulb at the sound of mom’s voice.”
Jay lived with grace, loved deeply, and laughed freely. She was the epitome of beauty, style, and strength. Her legacy is one of excellence, faith, and selflessness. She embodied the highest ideals of her profession, nurtured bonds of family and friendship, and left an indelible imprint on every life she touched.
