Matthew Patrick Cohn, 37, passed away following a tragic car accident on Sunday, July 13, 2025 in Palm Bay, Florida. His sudden departure leaves a wide and aching space in the hearts of those who loved him — most especially his partner, Kristin, and their son, Declan, age 14 months, who was the joy and light of Matt’s every day.
Son of Linda and Steve Cohn and brother to Steven, Jeremy, Jonathan, and Laura, Matt was born in Racine, Wisconsin and attended Indian Trail Academy in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He later graduated as a technician from WyoTech trade school in Laramie, Wyoming. Matt currently worked as a Branch Manager for Sunbelt Tools in Climate Control, where his peers knew his dedication, kindness, and leadership.
Wherever his adventures led him, Matt found solace and wonder in the natural world. He sought comfort in the waves of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, hiked the mountain trails of Colorado, and enjoyed the ocean tides in Florida. He carried a reverence for the outdoors — places where he could think, feel, and simply be. Matt had an artist’s soul and a scholar’s mind. He loved books, especially Harry Potter, and devoured knowledge — sometimes through recipe collections, sometimes through family genealogy. Matt found joy in cooking and reigned as the family chef at home. He was known for his witty mind, his spontaneous jokes, and his ability to keep everyone smiling. He loved rollercoasters, a playful moment, and the kind of conversation that meandered into something meaningful.
Most recently, Matt was so proud to become a father. He embraced every part of parenthood with the care and humor that defined his life. He deeply loved his partner Kristin and championed her growth, always encouraging her to pursue the opportunities that would bring her joy and purpose. In every season of their life together — in Colorado and most recently Florida — Matt put his family, especially son Declan, first.
Matt will be remembered as a curious child who grew into a man who lived with compassion, creativity, and spirit. He was a father, a partner, a son, a brother, and a friend — and he leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in every story told, every recipe cooked, and every laugh that echoes in his memory.
In heaven, Matt was greeted by his grandparents, Robert C. and Dolores Kreuser, Allwin Cohn, and Magdaline Cohn; beloved aunt Elaine Kreuser; and many other favorite aunts and uncles.
Those carrying his memory here on earth include Matt’s son, Declan Cohn of Palm Bay, Florida; his partner, Kristin Duclos of Palm Bay, Florida; his parents Linda and Steve Cohn of Pleasant Prairie, WI; his siblings Steven (Erin) Cohn, Jeremy Cohn, Jonathan Masi (Sharon Riley), and Laura (Erik) Herbrechtsmeier, all of Wisconsin; Kristin’s parents, Al and Deb Auglis; her siblings Erika Auglis (Louis Gonzalez) and Taylor Auglis (Charles Rootsey), all of Palm Bay, Florida; three nieces; four nephews; and many other beloved family members and friends.
Matthew’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the bystanders who came to his aid before first responders arrived. They also would like to thank the Palm Bay Emergency Medical Services team for their professionalism and care.
Visitation for Matthew will take place at Fountainhead Funeral Home (7359 Babcock St SE, Palm Bay, Florida) at 1:30pm Saturday, July 26, 2025. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00pm. A future Celebration will also occur in Wisconsin at a later date.
