

Mavis Sinclair Wallace entered this life on April 22, 1929 in Tweedside, Jamaica, West Indies. Born to Johnny and Edith Sinclair, Mavis was 1 out of 9 children with 3 brothers and 5 sisters. She passed away on August 28, 2014. She now joins 4 of her siblings who preceded her in death.
Mavis grew up in Jamaica and finished her formal education before coming to the United States in the early 1960s. She made her home in Jamaica, Queens, NY. She worked domestic until she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate (CNA). She worked at LaGuardia Hospital (then called Wyckoff Hospital, and more recently called North Shore Forest Hills Hospital) from the late 1960s until 1994 when she retired. She was also a skilled beautician. She relocated to Palm Bay, FL in 1998 to live out her retired years.
Mavis devoted her life to her daughter, Ann. She was a loving mother who made sacrifices, instilling in her to complete her education and providing the tools for success in life. Ann and her children were the loves of her life.
Mavis was a strong woman and truly enjoyed her life to its fullest terms. She was always willing and able to help anyone in need and extended generosity towards family and friends. She paved the way for many family members to strive toward excellence, academically, and professionally. She loved to travel and her passion was needlepoint.
Mavis leaves to cherish memories of her, a loving and devoted daughter, Ann (Jamaica, NY); a son-in-law, Christian, Sr. (Daytona Beach, FL); grandsons: Christian Jr. and Trevor (Jamaica, NY); her brother, Irving (Jamaica, W.I.); sisters: Jeanette (California), Eugenia (Cressie) (Bronx, NY), Doreen (Palm Bay, FL), Barbara (Aunt Babs) (North Carolina), Cordell (Maryland); and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends to celebrate her life
She will always be remembered as the “go to” person because she was always willing to give a helping hand, no matter what.
