Violet (Yolanda) Hill, age 95, passed away on January 16, 2017. She was born on July 18, 1921 in Vestea, Italy, to Nicholas and Concetta Costantini. She was the oldest of four children and survived her three younger brothers, Danny, Tony and Vinnie. Her parents came to America when she was two years old and she grew up in the Queens area of New York. She came to America as Yolanda but one year a teacher told her she looked like a Violet, giving her that name and from then on she was known as Violet. She will always be a fragrant flower to her family!
She married Roland Hill on October 22, 1950. They were married 65 years and had five children. Virginia Ruhlman in Clarkesville, Georgia; Earl Hill in Vero Beach, Florida; Nick Hill in Grant, Florida; Grace Behnke in Palm Bay, Florida and Timothy Hill in Grant, Florida. She had 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren which was responsible for that special sparkle in her eyes. Violet had a laugh that will forever resonate in the lives of her family and friends as well as leaving an eternal memory on Earth.
In Violet's younger days she worked for Macy's Department Store in Manhattan, TWA (Trans World Airlines) in New York and was a Seamstress in the Garment District for Suzy Perette Dresses making dresses for the Soap Stars back in the 50's. Later in life she was the Bookkeeper for Hudgins Fish Company in Grant, Florida. She worked the Grant Seafood Festival for 50 years making clam chowder and was a volunteer for the Grant Library and the Old Historic House. She was active in the Woman's Guild in her Church and she loved traveling abroad with family and going to World Series Baseball Games.
