Jean Wilbert Fevrier was born in Aux Cayes, Haiti on March 24, 1950 to Mr. Delma Joseph Fevrier and Marguerite Wiliana (Larocque) Fevrier. He was the fourth of nine siblings and was loved dearly by his family. As a child, Wilbert was known around his neighborhood as mild-mannered, soft-spoken and well loved by all in his community. He enjoyed being with friends and family, doing outdoor activities, swimming and getting into all sorts of playful mischief. He protected his younger siblings and took the blame when they would get into trouble. He later developed a passion for music, painting, gardening and playing dominoes. Wilbert made friends wherever he went and maintained many of those friendships throughout his lifetime. He lived life to the fullest, had a genuine care for others and an easy-going, humble nature that he carried until his passing.
As a teenager, Wilbert moved to Port-au-Prince where he went to school and worked for several years. In 1970, at the age of 20, he met Lorvia, his future wife. She fell in love with his genuineness, selflessness and humble heart. They tied the knot on December 20,1975, ultimately together for a total of 52 years, and married for 46 years. The marriage produced four children, Marie, Lovely, Jerry and Jimmy.
Wilbert was a hardworking man and worked several jobs making sure that he provided for his family. He had a passion for the arts and sold the paintings of local artists while in Haiti. In 1981, he worked for Norwegian Cruise Line’s SS Norway for about 6 years and then moved to New Jersey to join his wife and two daughters who had moved to the US early on. While in Jersey, he worked for Red Lobsters and in 1995, he moved to South Florida. There he worked the remainder of his career as a courier for Western Union until retirement, which was brought on by his willingness to lovingly care for his son Jimmy during his cancer journey. During retirement, he also picked up his love of painting once again and has blessed many with his scenic drawings of the natural beauty of Haiti.
Wilbert was kind and willing to help those in need. He was known for being very handy and would frequently be found making home repairs or doing mechanical work on cars. He was known as a cool guy, and many found him to be a father figure. Wilbert often spent time in the hospital with friends and family to provide care and company when they needed it the most. It was these selfless acts and many more that endeared him to the hearts of many. Above all, spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, brought him the most joy.
Wilbert not only believed in God, but he demonstrated the heart of God towards all who got to know him. He wasn’t a man of many words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was always thinking about the meaning of life and God’s great power in creating humanity and the concept of free will. He always concluded with this message: God is too great for our small minds to understand. God is love! We were created to love God and to love others. Wilbert believed and practiced this truth all of his life.
