Marvin Thomas Randolph was born on February 15, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Marvin was the fourth of seven children. His parents were the late Zelma Randolph-Richardson and late Edward “Eddie” Underwood.

Randolph, as he affectionately like to be called, was very gifted and graduated early from Detroit Southwestern High School in 1960. In 1976, he moved to southern California. Randolph worked in the auto industry, managed warehouses, and cared for others as an in-home provider, but he is most decorated for his work as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor with a specialization in mental health services.

Randolph valued education and excelled at learning, in and out of the classroom. One of his greatest desires was to earn a degree. At the age of 73, Randolph graduated cum laude with a liberal arts and science degree in Social Behavioral Sciences from Antelope Valley College.

Randolph enjoyed playing poker, going dancing – outfitted in his cowboy boots and hat – traveling, learning new things, and watching his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers. Randolph departed us peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Randolph was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella LaVell-Randolph; one granddaughter, Maya Kina Nettles; three brothers, Gordon Randolph, Ernest “Ronnie” Richardson, and James “Jimmy” Richardson; and special friend, Cathi Burns.

Randolph is survived by his three children, Nicole Marcella Davis (Kenneth Davis), Charisse Michelle LaVell, and Morgan Fall Nettles (Olivia Juliano, fiancé); three grandchildren, Kenyetta Nicole Davis, Kenneth Orlando Davis, and Wyatt Randolph Juliano; two great-grandchildren, Tylon Pitts and Karter Davis; one sister, Thelma Wilson; one brother, Orlando Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends – Jeanne, Pat, Kathy, and Willie.

Never knew Marvin that well (I was raised in Michigan) but he leaves a testimony of his life through his children. Nicole and Charisse are beautiful, successful, and sweet young women. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May God continue to bless you all.
