Richard Delano Powers Jr., passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy built not on grand gestures, but on the everyday love he gave so freely. He was born on October 18th, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Richard and Kathleen (Emma Burns) Powers. To those who knew him, he wasn’t just a father, a husband, or a friend; he was the person you could count on, the one who showed up, the one who made things feel steady even when life wasn’t.
To his family, he was the center of gravity. He is survived by his loving wife Christine, his children, Richard Powers III, Sarah Powers and Justin Powers. Grand children, Alexander, William, Valerie, Brian and Derek. Great-grandchild Jayda. His brother and sisters, Mark (Marcy) Powers, Sherry Howard and Christine Powers and many nieces and nephews, who will forever keep the lessons he taught close. He was preceded in death by his brother Brain Powers, his sister Cheryl Powers, and his brother Lonnie Powers, whom he now joins in rest.
His hands were always busy; fixing, building, helping but his heart was the busiest. Early on he ran his own business, Powers Plastering, continuing that for some time, he moved onto a job he took passion in, the conversion of vans for the handicap. Driven by a love for helping others, Richard found his greatest fulfillment in restoring the mobility and independence of his clients.
Simple things brought him the most joy, the perfect cup of coffee, a warm day spent on his Harley, and the excitement of an Ohio State Buckeyes or Kansas City Chiefs game. Above all else, he held a special place in his heart for his late dog, Lola, whom he loved and cherished dearly.
What people will remember most is his laugh and smile, the way he always tried to help others, and how he made everyone feel cared for and loved. He had a calm presence paired with a strong stubborn determination that he shared without a single thought or asking for anything in return.
His absence is felt in every corner of our days, but so is his love; strong, lasting, and ingrained into who we are. We will miss him, more than any word can describe, but we will carry him with us, always.
