Clare P. Cardwell

Clare Parker Cardwell (nee Saile) of Paoli, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. She was born in Philadelphia on June 14, 1924, the daughter of Consantine and Anna Saile. She was a proud Alumnus of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School, Class of ‘42. After graduation, she went to work for several years in the Import/Export Department at Merk Sharp & Dohme.

Clare married the first love of her life, Richard “Dick” Parker on September 26, 1953. Together they had three children; Mary-Anne, Thomas and Richard. She very much enjoyed being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and excelled in all three of those vocations. Dick passed away on April 2, 1981 and Clare married the second love of her life, Robert “Bob” Cardwell on April 1, 1989. Clare loved the Jersey Shore so she and Bob bought a house on Long Beach Island where they resided for several years before returning to Chesterbrook, PA. They also traveled extensively until Bob’s passing on August 29, 2003. Clare was an avid cat lover and leaves behind her beloved cat and constant companion, Herkimer.

Clare is survived by her children, Mary-Anne (Bill) Dieckhaus, Thomas (Lynn) Parker, Richard (Kate) Parker, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepsons, Robert and David Cardwell, her stepdaughter, Beth Cardwell and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Constantine and Anna, her brother, Joseph and her husbands, Dick and Bob.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, February 26 from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at St. Issac Jogues Catholic Church located at 50 Walker Rd., Wayne, PA 19087. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM followed by Internment at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Clare’s name to The American Heart Association or the Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals, 328 Upper Gulph Road, Radnor, PA 19087. Arrangements are with Alleva Funeral Home, Inc. Paoli, PA.
