Donald A Gillespie

Donald Allen Gillespie, 86, of Media, PA and a long time resident of center city Philadelphia, peacefully passed away on August 24, 2019 at Paoli Hospital from complications of heart and kidney failure. Born in Twin Oaks, Upper Chichester Township, PA, he was the beloved partner of Michael K. Liller who had predeceased him. He was the beloved son of the late Alexander L. Gillespie and Dorothy V. (nee Bothell). As one of five sons, he was the brother of Clarence J, and Edward W. of Harrington, Delaware and was predeceased by Robert and Alex.

Don was a graduate of Media High School. Following graduation, he worked at the General Steel Castings Corporation in Eddystone, PA before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1952 serving as a small arms proof technician. He served at Camp Le Jeune, North Carolina, and also in the “Birdcage” which contained nuclear warheads before being honorably discharged in 1956. He worked at General Electric as a Contract Administrator until his retirement. After retirement, Don was able to expand on his love of travelling and photography. He travelled to all seven continents including Antarctica.

Don’s wishes were to have a graveside service. This will be held at the Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, PA on September 4, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
