

Joan was born in Bryn Mawr in 1932 and lived in Oakmont, Willistown and Chesterbrook. She was the daughter of the late F. Carroll White and the late Margaret Webster White.
Joan is survived by her husband, Frank Grande, III; two daughters, Debbie King and Wendy Buitendijk & husband Hans; two sons, Steven King & wife Erica and Douglas King & wife Martha, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Rea, and brothers, James White, Richard White and Douglas White.
She graduated from Philadelphia Art Institute after completing high school at Tredyffrin East.
Joan’s first career was teaching riding for decades to many people while also personally enjoying fox hunting. Her second career was in real estate as an agent, and subsequently becoming the Manager of the Paoli Shopping Center and two other shopping centers.
Her retirement years afforded her more time to enjoy tennis, paddle, walking, painting and playing her piano almost daily .Joan attended Immaculata University to refresh her drawing and painting skills and was delighted to sell a number of her paintings.
Throughout her life Joan would frequently run into people who she had taught to ride. In later years she used her motivation and teaching abilities to encourage and help people that were learning tennis or paddle. She, along with her husband, was one of the early driving forces to bring about the construction of paddle courts at Picket Post Swim & Tennis Club in Chesterbrook.
Everyone that knew Joan would agree that she had a very youthful personality that remained constant along with her beautiful smile. At a social event, usually she danced the most. Joan had a zest for life. It was refreshing and fun just to be around her.
To celebrate Joan’s life, on Saturday, December 28, there will be a viewing from 9:00 am-11:00 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 217 Berkley Rd. Devon, PA. 19333. The Church Service will be at 11:00 am, immediately following the Church service interment at Philadelphia Memorial Park, 124 Phoenixville Pike, Frazer, PA. 19355. Arr.
