Bette was born on July 5, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska to Leo and Erma (Post) Kritenbrink. She attended Fairview Grade School and graduated from Springfield High School in 1953. On May 15, 1954, she was united in marriage with Hugo Wischmann at St. Columbkille's Church. To this union they had two sons and two daughters. Bette worked for the Sarpy County Assessor’s office from 1956 to 1957 and then for the Sarpy County Clerk’s office from 1968 until her retirement in 1998. She and Hugo enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and, in 2008, visited Hugo’s cousins in Germany. They moved to Hillcrest Country Estates in 2018. Bette had a passion for baking, reading, playing cards, crocheting, raising flowers, and working on puzzles. Above all, she loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, son-in-law Joseph Todero, brothers-in-law Walter Kassube and Greg Latham. She is survived by children: Laurie and Rick Jones, Jim and Kim Wischmann, Mary Todero and Dana Spaccarotella, all of Papillion. Grandchildren: Gary and Daniel Jones, Sara, Paige and Mackenzie Wischmann, Nina and Grayson Stanton. Great-granddaughter Elena Martinez. Sisters: Shirley and Bill Williams of Papillion, Marilyn Kassube, and Karen Latham of Springfield; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested to St. Columbkille Catholic Church or Hillcrest Hospice.
A Visitation for Bette will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a Vigil Service starting at 7:00 pm at Kahler Dolce Mortuary, 441 North Washington Street, Papillion, Nebraska.
The Funeral Mass will occur on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Columbkille Church, 200 E Sixth St, Papillion, Nebraska. A committal service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Papillion, where Bette will be laid to rest.
