Harlene and family, I am so sorry to hear of Corky's passing, he will truly be missed! My thoughts and sympathy are with all of you!

A Letter From Heaven - Ruth Ann Mahaffey
 
To my dearest family, some things Id like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here, theres no more tears of sadness;
Here is just eternal love.
 
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through.
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you.
Its good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
 
I need you here so badly, you are part of my plan.
There is so much that we can do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
 
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
 
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and Id like it for you too;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
 
If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night....My day was not in vain.
And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low;
Just lend a hand to pick them up, as on your way you go.
 
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when its time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.

So sorry to hear about Corky. Will always have the good memories of Alaska Drive and the good times we shared at the reunions. May God bless and protect you and the rest of your family.

Harlene and family - We tried so hard to get there last night for the visitation.  We got as far as the Waukee exit before the road was closed due to blizzard conditions and accidents and we were forced to turn back.  It was a 5 hour round trip (would have been 40 minutes in normal conditions)but it gave us time to reflect on Cork and some of his antics!  We laughed and we were sad.  I can appreciate his fear of snakes, as I share in that life altering fear myself.  We are praying for you today and in the coming days.  He will be missed by many.  Fifty years of marriage is such a testament to your love for each other. We love you all.

Harlene and family - We tried so hard to get there for visitation last night.  We were crushed that we couldn't make it due to the blizzard and closed interstates.  It took us 5 hours to drive from Bondurant to the Waukee exit (a 20 minute drive under normal conditions) and back home.  We saw horrific accidents.  We are praying for you today and in the weeks to come.  We talked about Cork and his antics while we were traveling.  He was such funny man.  I am in the same club as he as far as snakes go!   I am so glad you had such a wonderful life together -  50 years of marriage!   Again, please accept our sincere sympathy and regret that we were unable to get there.  We love you all.

What a great friend Corky was! We enjoyed visiting and doing business with Corky every time we were able to get down to Springfield. 
Corky can "go Fishin" anytime now instead of just when it got too hot.

So much sadness in our little old town. Main St will never be the same. It was always such a pleasure to talk to Corky and he was always so nice. Prayers for your family!

I met Corky through business dealings. He was always fair, honest, and easy to work with. I will miss being able to call and ask about an antique piece. I remember how proud people were to say "Corky refinished these antique pieces for me". Corky will be sorely missed by all.

Harlene, our sincere condolences during this sad time.  You and Corky were an important part of making life in Springfield so memorable.  Sending thoughts and prayers and thanks; may Corky rest in peace.

Corky had best eye for many, many uniquest and rarest antique items since, I first set my foot in his shop on Main St. long time ago. He had biggest and tenderest heart with warmest greeting every time I stopped by to visit him and bought many items from him. Godspeed, Corky.

I am so saddened to hear of Corky's death.  Things at the Lexington will not be the same without him at our show.  He has been a good friend to me in the time that I've known him and will be missed by both my daughter, Taylor and me.  Blessings of comfort to Harlene and family.  You are in my prayers.
