Gerald "Jerry" Thurman

He was born on November 4, 1953 in Papillion, Nebraska where he grew up with his brother and his sister. His mother passed away at a young age and his father remarried, where Jerry had a second mother. He spent much of his youth with his grandmother Ruth Wittmuss. Jerry spent his early years working for the family business (Horn the Wellman) and later doing deliveries for Cornhusker Beverage and Delivery.

Jerry went into the Navy in 1970 where he served four years before returning to Papillion where he met his wife, Dee. They had their first child in ‘77 and then went back to the Navy in ‘78. Jerry and Dee spent most of their tour in San Diego, San Francisco and Guam, where they raised their three children. Jerry retired as a chief petty officer in 1995 and they returned to Papillon. Jerry began a second career with Standard Heating and Air and retired a second time in 2019.

Jerry enjoyed golfing, camping, playing washers and drinking beer at his favorite pubs, Jammers and Varsity. Jerry was also very thrifty. He boasted he could get a concert ticket and 1/2 a sandwich for $5.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Al Thurman, Donna Ruth Thurman and his second mother, Alan Thurman.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dee Thurman; his children, Heather (Chris) Schneider, Cassie (Jason) Hicks, and Brian Thurman; his five grandchildren, Hailey, Taylor, Ethan, Ella, and Luna; his sister, Betsy; his brother, Todd; and many aunts uncles and cousins.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE Saturday, April 26th at 10:30 am at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary.
