

He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Lola F Nicholson, his brother Harold Nicholson and his grandson Colton Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Melva Nicholson. They had three children Debbie (Merl) Merchant of Murdock NE, Lyle Rex (Mary) Nicholson of Papillion NE, and Jeffery Nicholson of Papillion NE. There are eight grandchildren: Tony (Mandy) Mason of Lincoln NE, Candie Reagan of Lincoln NE, David Mason of Clarksville TN, Keith (Sophia) Mason of Lincoln NE, Damon Mason of Essex IA, Lyle Ryan (Chantel) Nicholson of Papillion NE and Shayla Nicholson of Papillion NE. He also has eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins that all loved him.
He was born in Omaha in 1939. He lived in Meadow NE until they moved to Omaha NE in 1944. Lyle graduated from Tech High school in Omaha in 1957.
He was working at a Hinky Dinky grocery store in Omaha when he met Melva. They were married on Sept 27, 1959. They lived in Omaha for a while then moved to Central City NE where he managed a gas station, and that is when their first child was born. They moved to Murdock NE, where he worked at a gas station and they had their second child. Their next move was to LaVista and in June 1965 they bought their home in Papillion. That is where their third child was born. They have lived there for 57 years.
He worked at Western Electric in the reel yard loading trucks and trains for 33 years. And he was a member of their fire brigade. He was a member of the Papillion Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and a Sarpy County Reserve Deputy for 9 years. Over the years, he was involved in many things. He was a member of St Paul’s Methodist Church, and he built the large wooden cross for the church to use at Easter and the manger for the nativity scene. He was in the Papillion JC, the Omaha Sarpy County React and is a charter member of the Eagles. He was actively involved with the Shriners and Masonic Lodge, including the Springfield Masonic Blue Lodge and Papillion Blue Lodge 39, Chapter 61 Royal Arch, past High Priest, Council Omaha No 1, Knights Templar Mount Calvary Commandery No 1, Scottish Rites, Knights of St Andrew, Shriner (Tangier), and the Shrine Bowl Unit.
Lyle had a love for family, friends and community. He loved boating, fishing and hunting. He took all eight grandchildren on separate individual vacations with him and Melva. He was quick with a joke and had a great sense of humor. He looked forward to the holidays being surrounded by his large loving family.
