Born in Gretna, Ne. grew up in Papillion. Peter enlisted in the Army in WWII. He was in the 11th Armored Division in Europe – Patton’s Tank Corps. where he received a Purple Heart. He returned to Bellevue, Ne. and was a Roberts Dairy Milkman. He started a used oil business (Pete’s Drain Oil/Capital Oil) He and Sylvia retired to Alaska where he spent his time fishing. They moved to Las Vegas & then returned to Papillion to be closer to family. He passed away at the Eastern Nebraska Vets Home.
Preceded in Death: Wife of 69 years Sylvia. Brothers: Fred, James, Richard. Sisters: Maurine Shramek, Frances & Virginia Umatum. Grandson : Mark Miller
Survived Children & Spouses: Sandra & Curt Van Fossen NE., Peter Umatum & Jean Gundersen, AK., Neil & Robin Umatum, WA., Corrine “Putzy”& Rod Miller, NE. Mark Umatum & Tina Beard, CA., Gregory & Debra Umatum, NV., 18 Grandchildren, 26 Great GrandChildren, Sister “Tootsie” Daup, Brother: “Bud“ Umatum. Many Nieces, Nephews other relatives and friends.
Gathering Monday Dec. 12, 2011 from 6-8pm at Mortuary with Wake service at 7:00 pm. Private Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Funeral Mass Tuesday Dec. 13, 10:30 am St. Columbkille Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, Bellevue NE.
