Richard spent his childhood growing up on a farm in Chalco, Ne. He was baptized into the Christian faith at First Lutheran Church in Papillion on March 29, 1936. He attended Stender School, a one-room school house, for grade school. As a young teen, he affirmed his baptism and was confirmed on May 28, 1950. In 1953, Richard graduated from Springfield High School – with a graduation class of 14. Those friendships were important to him as he always attended class and whole-school reunions, and kept in touch with them throughout his life.
After high school, Richard began working at Armours Meatpacking Plant in South Omaha. In 1956, Richard enlisted in the Army. He served two years active, two years ready, and two years standby.
On the dance floor, at Sokol Hall, is where Richard met Donna Untiedt. On December 9, 1961, they were united in marriage at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. They were married 59 years before Donna’s death in 2021. Together, they loved polka dancing (often with the Smutnys, Iskes, and Lorenzs) and following their favorite accordion player, Dean Hansen. Few weekends ever passed without attending a dance at Sokol, The German American Society, or other dance halls in the area.
Richard and Donna made their home in Ralston. Together, they raised their three daughters. He supported his family by working at Western Electric, as well as many other “side” jobs. They were blessed with wonderful neighbors, the Huffs, Dickmans, and Nelsens, as well as many others who lived on 91st Street throughout the years.
Throughout his life Richard enjoyed playing a good hand of pitch! For many years, you would find Richard bowling in league at Gretna Bowl. In retirement, Richard often helped out at St. Luke’s Church with different jobs that needed to be completed. Additionally, he served as an usher during Sunday service. One of his favorite things to do was to drink a “blue yummy” and shoot the breeze with neighbors, friends, and family! Together, Richard and Donna sat at many baseball games, basketball games, and baton competitions, cheering on their grandchildren with pride. He and Donna loved their Ralston community, often supporting football and basketball teams long after their girls had graduated high school.
Richard took pride in his family and loved them very much. He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna, parents Etta and William Krambeck, brother Laverne Krambeck and sister Elevera “Tootie” Eggers. He is survived by his three daughters: Connie (Jim) Tefft, Cindy (Mike) Fleming, and Christine Kilzer; his grandchildren: Ryan (Brooke) Tefft, Jon (Carly) Tefft, Sara (Michael) Tolley, Joshua Kilzer and Allison Kilzer; his great-grandchildren: Harrison and Sophie Tefft, Frances and Lucille Tefft, and Lyla Tolley. We commend Richard to God’s safe-keeping where he is now reunited with Donna and other loved ones.
