

Captain Robert S. (Bob) Perkins, Jr. USN (Ret) passed away on March 29th, 2025 at the age of 90. He died peacefully at his home, in the company of his family. He was born on December 13th, 1934 in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Robert and Mabel Perkins. His father served in the Army, which meant many moves around the US and a posting in Germany as part of the Allied occupation after WWII.
He graduated from the United States Naval Academy on June 4th, 1958, the same day that he married his sweetheart, Genie Ellis. Over the next 20 years built his career in the Navy, including as captain of the nuclear submarine USS Trepang.
At the same time, he and Genie raised a family of four children and many beloved cats. After his final posting at SAC (Strategic Air Command) in Omaha, he embarked on a second career as a Certified Financial Planner with Waddell & Reed. He was active in the Papillion Area Lions Club; he and Genie were longtime members of and contributors to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Bob and Genie retired in Papillion, where he enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, and reading military and political history.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents. His beloved wife Genie passed two days after he did. He is survived by his sister Jane (Gene) Henderson, and four children, Deborah (Kevin) Pufall, Robert (Allison) Perkins, John (Jill) Perkins, Mary (Andrew) Elks, and grandchildren, Samantha, Benjamin, Jessica, Ryan, Alex, and Andre.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, April 6th from 2-4 pm, at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, 441 N Washington St. in Papillion. The funeral service will be on Monday, April 7th at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 324 S Jackson St in Papillion. Interment will follow at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd in Omaha.
