Born on December 12, 1944, in Key West, Florida, Shirley was the oldest of four children born to Clell and June Spoering. She grew up in Springfield, Missouri, alongside her two sisters, Denise Maxwell and Judy Spoering, and her brother, Gary Spoering. Shirley had a deep love for pets and a passion for arts and crafts, which she carried with her throughout her life. She majored in zoology in college, reflecting her lifelong love of animals.
Shirley later pursued a degree as a paralegal and worked in this field for several years. Her creativity shone through in her love for making jewelry and knitting, hobbies she cherished deeply.
In 1966, Shirley married Calvin Naegelin, and together they built a loving family. She is survived by her son, Conrad Naegelin, and his wife, Helen, whom he married in 1996. Shirley was a proud grandmother to Emily Naegelin and Lotus Naegelin.
Her interests extended beyond her family and work. Shirley was very interested in knitting, reading, and making jewelry, including silversmithing. She adored her pets, Sophie the cat and Cooper the dog, who were constant companions in her life.
Shirley's commitment to her community was evident in her support for her church, missionary work, animal shelters, and veterans' missions. She will be remembered as a loving mother who was quiet but tough and strong when needed, always caring for the well-being of others, and willing to learn and try new things. Her strong sense of right and wrong guided her actions, and she consistently sought to do the right thing.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Community Bible Church for their unwavering support of both Shirley and Calvin.
Visitation for Shirley will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at Kahler Dolce Mortuary, 441 North Washington Street, Papillion, NE.
