

Joe A. Cope, Sr., 88, of Paris, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at Stillhouse Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center while surrounded by his family. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 13th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Bro. Don Shovan, Bro. Kelly Adams, and Charlee Cope, a granddaughter of Mr. Cope. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and will at the home of Carrie Tribble, 3261 Allen, Paris, TX at other times. Joe was born July 21, 1928, in Lamar County to Charlie & Carrie Lou Upchurch Cope. He was self-employed as a truck driver and also worked for Elm Fork Construction and Ed Jenkins Construction. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Claudine Page Cope, his son, Joie A. Cope, Jr., a son-in-law, Glen Tribble, four sisters, Hassie Lane, Ethel “Sis” Grayson, Magdalene Hively Phillips and Dorothy Hamilton, two brothers, Charles Mathews “John” Cope and Bob Cope, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Wallace & Faye Coursey along with several nieces & nephews. Survivors include his children; Carrie Tribble, John Wayne Cope & wife Carla and Judy Exum & husband Tem, grandchildren; Charlee Cope, Tony Exum & wife Paula, Brian Exum & wife Breanna, Kami and Claudia, great grandchildren; Andrew Exum, Austin Exum, Blaine Ash, Brooke Nichols, Brittany Nichols, Catlyn Exum, Brayden Nichols, Jackson Exum, & Addison Exum along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Stillhouse Nursing and Rehab Staff and Hospice Plus for the care given their loved one. Casket bearers will be: Jim Hamilton, Bryan Hamilton, Dubba Lane, Bo Cope, Sonny Sikes, Tim Coursey, Timmy Lester and Bill Coursey. Larry Hamilton will serve as an honorary bearer.
