

Richard C. Rhodes Sr. died, August 9th, 2015 in his home at the age of 83 of natural causes. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a law graduate from the University of Minnesota. He served as a criminal investigator with the U.S. Treasury Department and later as a technical operations officer with the CIA. After leaving government, he was a security consultant in Dallas, a manufacturer’s representative for security products, and a marketing director in a Fortune 500 company. He founded a publishing company in Dallas for trade books. His one published novel was “Serpent on the Hill,” (under the pen-name of Philip Eliot). Mr. Rhodes was a long-time contributor of articles to newspapers and magazines, among them “The Dallas Morning News” and “Texas Monthly”. His passion for writing letters-to-the-editor resulted in hundreds of being published, in “The Dallas Morning News”, “The New York Times”, “The Wall Street Journal” and many other major publications. For many years, he wrote a broad-based column on the Internet called “The View From The Outback,” from his home in Rural Northeast Texas. He was a private pilot and a ham radio operator (ham call K5OQ). He is survived by his sons, Mark W. Rhodes, Richard C. Rhodes Jr. and several grandchildren. Bright-Holland Funeral Home conducted military graveside honors at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
