

Earl Edward Dougherty, known as “Daddy”, “Papa”, “Eddie”, “Uncle Ed” and “Mr. Ed”, passed away on February 24, 2016 in Murfreesboro, TN. He was born February 7, 1928 in Parkersburg, WV and was a January 1946 graduate of Parkersburg High School where he played Big Red football and baseball. He attended David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN after serving in the Marines at El Toro, CA. He is survived by daughters, Pam Dotson of Smyrna, TN, Terry Releford and husband Mike, Judy Gower and husband David of Nashville, TN, grandchildren, Kenneth Dotson of LaVergne, TN, Jamie Gregory of Smyrna, TN, Rachel Gower and Jeremy Gower of Nashville, TN, great grandchildren, Jackson Gregory and Bennett Gregory of Smyrna, TN, sisters, Becky Petty of Williamstown, WV and Ava Lee Stanley of San Antonio, TX, numerous nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Lou Dougherty, parents, Harry Sherman Dougherty and Marie Dotson Dougherty, siblings, Kenneth Dougherty, Francis Dougherty, Lillian Plum, Marjorie Showalter, Barbara Dougherty, James Dougherty and Guinevere, his beloved lab-shepherd mix companion in the last year of his life. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. His faith was the overriding aspect of his life and personality and brought him great comfort and security. He was proud of his service to his country as well as that of his father and brothers. He was a loyal Mountaineer to the end.
