Everett served in the Armed Forces, U.S. Army, WWII, stationed in Italy as a switchboard operator with the Signal Corps. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by the Rig & Reel factory where he learned his trade as a Licensed Electrician. He was subsequently employed at the Penn Metal Corporation, B.F. Goodrich and the Wood County Board of Education from which he retired in 1990.
In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Smith Gates, Lena Smith Thompson, five brothers-in-law; Rollin H. Myers, Everett Gates, Carol Thompson, Clair McCoy and Clair Skinner; and a son-in-law, William E. Kiger. Surviving Everett is his wife of 68 years and the constant love of his life, Betty Myers Smith; a brother Vernon (Grace) Smith ; three sisters, Betty Skinner, Ireta McCoy, Nina (Norman) Allman; one son, Roger D. Everett was a kind, gentle, patient and selfless man who could charm a smile out of anyone. He was a loving and faithful husband, a compassionate father and an excellent example of humanity in all things to his granddaughter. In his earlier years, he enjoyed camping with his friends and family members, fishing, hunting and taking care of his farm. Following his retirement he enjoyed many years with his wife at their home in Florida and making new friends. We will all miss him and smile when we think of him. A more charming soul, I think was never born. Godspeed, Everett. We love you.
