It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arnold L (Arnie) Blake on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
Arnie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy, his daughter, Barb (Larry Bonnar) of Port Alberni and Bill of Vancouver, BC. Also surviving Arnie are his granddaughters Rebecca (John) and Brittany (Scott) and little great granddaughters, Bethany and Isabelle. He also leaves behind his sister, Rhoda, of Alberta and many cousins. Arnie was predeceased by his infant great-grandson, Caleb.
Arnie was born, one of three children, on the family farm on April 22, 1936. His Grandma Blake delivered him, a healthy 10-pound baby. At the age of 12 years, he moved from the prairies with his family, settling in BC.
Arnie worked for the CPR as a telegrapher for 14 years. He and Peggy were married in Vancouver in June of 1958. Shortly after the tsunami struck in 1964, the family moved to Port Alberni. This was to become their lifelong home.
In Port Alberni, Arnie worked for MacMillan Bloedel for 23 years. Through the company, he attained his lumber-grading and tallying ticket and worked for APD's lumber sales for most of those years.
Throughout his lifetime, he had a passion for sports. Arnie loved and excelled at hockey, softball and bowling. He was an avid Vancouver Canucks fan.
In retirement, Arnie and Peggy bought a motorhome and travelled extensively. They were never happier than when camping with their granddaughters. Telling ghost stories, playing cards and eating banana splits were always top priority.
Peggy and her family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Westhaven. We know we chose the right home for Arnie.
Arnie will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man, one dedicated to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
No service at Arnie's request.
