In the late evening of April 16, 2024 and a week following her 82nd birthday Felicity O’Carroll took her last breath. Felicity was born on April 8, 1942 in Tramore, Co Waterford, Ireland the second daughter and child for Desmond and Phyllis Counahan. Growing up Felicity was an avid and skilled tennis player, talented seamstress, master in the kitchen, and loved playing the piano. Felicity completed her post-secondary education at University College Dublin graduating as a physio. During this time she met Jim O’Carroll and they were married in 1968.
Felicity and Jim emigrated to Canada in the summer of 1969 and settled in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. During their time in Esterhazy they welcomed 5 children - Jennifer, Henry, Ruth, Tiann, and Aynsley. In 1981 the family relocated to Regina where Felicity devoted time to settling the family into their new home and city. She returned to work in 1986 first at the Plains Health Campus and later the Pasqua Hospital as a respiratory physio and was perhaps Nintendo’s best game boy salesperson - any patient needing to quit smoking was sold on the merits of Gameboy Tetris. In 2004 Felicity retired from physio and in 2006 she and Jim relocated to Qualicum Beach where they built a great network of friends at the golf course, bridge club, community, and church.
Felicity was a dynamo mother. All 5 of her children had extracurricular activities and even though she may be driving here, there, and everywhere she had dinner made for everyone. She was the best cheerleader for whomever was in a tournament, competition, race, or performance. She was very giving of her time volunteering at figure skating, ringette, golf and church. After moving to Qualicum Beach Felicity volunteered in various capacities at Ascension Parish through which she got to know many of the parishioners and they her. Her kindness and compassion shone when she cared for family and friends and when volunteering. James and Sam can attest she loved being a grandmother.
Felicity is predeceased by her parents Desmond and Phyllis, and brother Ralph. She is survived by her husband Jim, children - Jennifer, Henry, Ruth (Derek), Tiann (Sean, James, and Sam), and Aynsley (Nick)-, sisters - Terry, Geraldine, Sarah, and Cliodhna - and brother Michael.
Funeral will be held at Church of the Ascension in Parksville at 2pm Saturday April 20, 2024.
Flowers are graciously declined. Those wishing to pay tribute to Felicity may do so by donating to Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care.
